AUCC Junior Coaching Coordinator for 2017-18 season - Ben Lewis

Ben has been a member of the Auckland University Cricket Club since 2004, starting his junior cricket in the Y4 Spitfires, and now a member of the Men’s Premier squad. With a rich family history in the club, Ben has spent the last 13 years playing his cricket for AUCC and received his 200-game cap in the 2016-17 season, showing his true dedication and determination to the game and the club he loves.

He brings an organised, punctual approach to his coaching, and is focused on the expression of the individual cricketer. He takes a progressive approach to his coaching exploring the use of digital technology and centres his coaching style on self-directed learning pedagogy, these are significant in his philosophy on both coaching and teaching.  He is in the 4th and final year of his Bachelors of Physical Education and Health, studying at the University of Auckland.

Ben’s professional coaching experience includes involvement with the Eastern Districts Crickets Association. He has strong ties to Glendowie College – attending as a student and playing for the Boys 1st XI, which he is now coaching.

Coaching Courses

If you are a player, parent/guardian or a volunteer coach, and as you edge closer to the new season, please have a think: What might you like to have known about coaching a team or improving the technique of a player, or developing individuals and teams, as last season progressed? Or, if you are new to coaching cricket, what would you like to know?

Whilst a lot of what you can offer as a parent or a coach is based on life experiences and parenthood, the technical side of the game of cricket can often be the one that volunteer team coaches are a little bit frightened of, and often don't quite have the appropriate knowledge for the assistance that is required by a particular team or player.

AUCC runs accredited New Zealand Cricket Courses and workshops for you to upskill yourself.  Dates for the lead-in to the 2017-18 season will be published here as they become available.

Foundation Coaching Course School Years 0-4
A 2-hour course; hands on with no examination and comes with a free coaching manual. The foundation course focuses on: creating awareness, fair play, team play, and the teaching of basic skills.
